We’ve all been there. You make a commitment to yourself to stop eating junk food, cut your portions and exercise regularly.

Then something or some place totally knocks you off course.

It’s amazing how quickly you can fall off the wagon. For me it came in the form of an Indian Restaurant last Saturday night. We went there for dinner with our friends Ann and Trev. Most of you know Ann, she posted here about her ongoing challenge to continue working out at her local gym.

We had made a point of not eating too much during the day so that we were hungry by the time we got to the restaurant. MISTAKE NO 1! Never go to the restaurant hungry!

After checking out the menu we decided to share a range of meals. Ann is the only vegetarian among us so we thought it would be unfair to pick only one for her seeing the rest were meat based. MISTAKE NO 2! Cut down the meat based dishes!

So we ended up having 3 entrees to share, 7 mains and 2 portions of naan bread. When they meals came out we were blown away by the sizes, they were huge and oh so delicious!

I don’t know what it is but whenever I am out with friends the part of my brain that usually shows restraint and control goes completely out the window. We all ate way too much and felt pretty full when finished.

We went back to my place for drinks and coffee and although I felt pretty annoyed with myself for eating so much, I was pretty confident that tomorrow would offer me a new day to correct the wrongs of the night before.

I know that many of you feel self loathing and guilt when you fall off the wagon. The problem with self loathing is that it is so defeating. When you feel this way it can be tempting to just give in and not try and start the new day in a positive frame of mind.

It doesn’t help when you see people around you and on the media that seem to be perfect.
Oprah has been one high profile person to come out recently and been quite open in saying, yep I have lost the plot with my weight and fitness but I am not going to give in to it. I know it can be depressing to feel that you are constantly having to check what you eat and living in fear that the weight is going to pile on. It’s a path that will lead you nowhere and only serve to push you further into negative thinking and self loathing.

I know it can be demoralizing when you were doing so well and then fall off the wagon. The thing is though, you have to pick yourself up and fight another day.

If you take anything out of reading this blog I hope it’s that you need to stop focusing on what you have done wrong in the past. Focus on today and keep fighting. Most importantly, find time for yourself and look to inject some fun into your life.

The really bad news for me is that this amazing new Indian Restaurant is less than 5 minutes walk from my house. Let’s see how long I can go before succumbing to that naan bread and Chicken Masala! Stay tuned….

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) — Rob Sandler comforted his infant son as he lifted him out of the crib, cooing in his ear while he walked to the living room.

If his baby had needed to be soothed three months ago, Sandler, 36, of Houston, Texas, might have handed the baby off to his wife and then found an excuse to leave the house.

“Honestly, it felt like when I was at home, the walls became very, very close in. I wouldn’t say claustrophobic, but very cabin feverish,” Sandler said.

It turned out that Sandler, a medical device salesman, had more than cabin fever. He recently got an official diagnosis: He has a male version of postpartum depression.

“This comes as quite a shock to men who are expecting this wonderful time of baby bliss with the new baby and a time of bonding,” said Will Courtenay, a San Francisco, California-based psychotherapist and founder of Saddaddy.com, who is a leading expert in the United States on paternal postnatal depression.

In what is believed to be a first in any footy code around the world, Australian Rules Football (AFL) is set to use radio transmitters this weekend to transmit live information to the TV broadcasters including speed, endurance, collisions and heart-rates of players.

The AFL has granted Collingwood, Brisbane and, perhaps most significantly, Channel Ten permission to use the same extraordinarily detailed measurements during its broadcast.

Four Collingwood players and five Lions will carry the radio transmitters under their vests, which means television viewers — and clubs — will see:

â– Distance covered and top and average speed of those players.

â– G-force, which measures the impact of their collisions, including their biggest hits.

â– Heart-rates of two players from each club, with the average and highest rates covered.

â– Number of collisions for those nine players and the average force of their hits.

â– A breakdown of how much jogging, running and sprinting the measured players do.

For those of you who don’t know, I love dogs. I think they are the just wonderful animals and I would do just about anything for my little JRT, Sam including having a prosthetic paw attached.

A Belgian Shephard, called Storm from Germany has become the world’s first pet to be fitted with a prosthetic paw.

The limb has been designed so that the dog’s skin can grow back. Seriously, how cool is that!

Storm, who lives in Oxshott, Surrey, had a leg removed when it became infected with an aggressive tumour earlier this year.

You can watch a news video clip from BBC by clicking here: Watch video

The best part of this story is that they are now planning on using this same technology for victims returning from Iraq.

Storm has his own website which you can get to by visiting: http://www.stormtaylor.com/

The American Psychiatric Association, however, called for more balanced and objective academic research focused on computer and video games.

It is expected that the AMA will now recommend that a study be undertaken with input from the American Psychiatric Association.

I’ve heard of people spending countless hours or days in front of their gaming console with some ignoring friends and family, forgetting to eat or shower and generally dropping out of society for lengthy periods of time.

I can relate to this as in the past I have been hooked on certain games. It is hard to break away from the console, especially when you are at critical points or levels in the game. But eventually, hunger and fatigue sets in and you really have no choice but to save the game and go to bed..or eat!

I don’t usually post stories that are based on studies. I am personally very sick of studies. There are too many in my opinion and it only serves to confuse the average person on the street. One study concludes that spuds cause cancer and then another comes out totally dismissing it. I wish they would just silently conduct their studies and only after they have a definitive answer, release it to the public. I’m sure it will stop alot of confusion!

But this one caught my eye because I love gaming and recently posted about wii Sports which can potentially help you to get your heart rate up and drop a few pounds.

So to all your serious gamers out there who forget to shower or sleep, watch out, you could soon be deemed to have a mental disorder.

Some might question the need to monitor your heart rate while working on your computer but hey, nothing quite like adding a new, glowing, nifty gadget to your desk!

The heartbeat indicator mouse uses sensors inside the mouse so that when your thurm or palm touches it, heart rate information is sent to the little display panel.

This could actually be of benefit to many of you that have stressful jobs or for those who don’t even realise you are getting all wound up over something you are working on. It will let you know that it’s time to get away from your desk and maybe go for a walk or just chill out in the staff room.

The information can even be sent to your hospital or health carer, especially handy if you have a medical condition that requires monitoring.

It would be cool if you could have this information sent to a website so you can get graphs, etc on a long term basis.

Looking forward to seeing this hit the market.
