Pushing Yourself
March 30th, 2009
We all have days where we feel so tired and drained that conjuring up enough energy to exercise seems almost impossible.
I had one of those days on Saturday. I woke up feeling exhausted after a terrible nights sleep. Actually, there was little sleep just lots of tossing and turning. We had a busy day planned, starting early with me dropping my partner off to work and then visiting grandparents, cleaning the house then the car followed by dinner with friends and a comedy festival later that night.
I always take our dog for a quick walk after dropping my partner off to work and Saturday was no different. Even before I got to the park I had made the decision not to do any exercise as I usually do. I simply didn’t have the energy.
As I started walking around the park, I figured that if I could muster up enough energy to do that then perhaps I could run up and down the steps. After doing this 12 or so times, I figured I could probably do some sit-ups and push-ups. Pretty soon I had worked-out for 30 mins.
I felt really good as I ran to the car and had more energy than two cups of coffee had provided earlier that morning!
There are many benefits to pushing yourself during these times. I think the biggest is the mental part, it’s a personal victory in so much as you didn’t let yourself down.

I know this may sound very hokey, but it is also very true; some of the best workouts I have ever had, in the gym or out of doors, have been when I’m “just not feelin’ it”.
Starting slow works! When things aren’t forced, they often just fall into place, and like you say Sal, there is a definite victory in that. Those victories can add up to good results. The ones which don’t add up though, are the victories which are never attempted.

Hi Roy,
Well said :) I had a terrible nights sleep and am up 2 hours earlier than usual. I’m definitely not “feelin’ it” this morning!
That being said, I might get on the bike shortly…..
