Top 6 ‘honest’ excuses not to exercise
January 5th, 2009
We all have excuses not to exercise. I don’t have time, my knee hurts, the kids won’t let me. The list goes on and on.
But really, these aren’t the real reasons you don’t want to exercise. I’ve compiled a short list (in no particular order) of honest excuses I’ve heard over the years from friends and family about why they don’t exercise.
What about you? Do you have any honest and truthful excuses to contribute? If so, leave a comment.
- Would rather poke my eye out than get on a treadmill.
- I’m busy – doing nothing
- My favorite show is on TV right now
- Exercising makes me sweaty
- Exercising might kill me
- That would involve moving
My personal favorite.
One of my friends shared this rather disturbing statement with me over the holidays.
Surprisingly difficult to respond too.
Let’s face it, we’ve all used this excuse at some point in our lives. Some, more frequently than others.
Possibly one of the most convenient excuses known to man, used for many situations including exercise and frequently during the ratings period.
Yep, it does and only if you do it right.
Oh come on! Seriously, you sticking with that?
That’s correct, it would involve moving. Pass the chips.

I can’t remember to do it.
I’ve even worked out routines that I can do while watching TV and surfing the internet. But do I remember? No. So forgetting is really the only excuse I’ve got.

Hi Sam,
That’s a pretty good excuse. Amazing how we don’t forget to do the enjoyable things though isn’t it? ;)
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers

Funny, I own a gym — at my house no less, and I stil come up with the excuse every so often that, “I’m too tired” at the end of the day to workout. Then I remeber that little steps provide energy for bigger steps. Bigger steps provide energy for even bigger steps, and so on. Pretty soon, a tired man, at the end of the day, is taking giant steps.
I so wish the world would recognize that — that just getting started, just those first few steps, can pave the way to feeling much better.

Hi Roy,
That’s a very good way of looking at it. Sometimes it can be a real struggle to start but I usually feel good once I’m up and about :)
