Good news for those who are exposed to high levels of noise.
Scientists from the University of Michigan’s Kresge Hearing Research Institute have found that magnesium, vitamins A, C and E may help protect the ears from noise induced hearing loss.
The research involved four groups of guinea pigs. Each group received different treatments once daily for six days, they included:
- Magnesium and vitamins A, C, and E
- Vitamins A, C, and E without magnesium
- Magnesium only
- Salt water (placebo)
The guinea pigs were then exposed to 120 decibels of noise for five consecutive hours. The group received the combination of Magnesium and vitamins A, C, and E had the least amount of noise induced hearing loss.
Magnesium aids the body’s absorption of calcium and also plays a role in the strength and formation of bones and teeth.
Vitamin A is known to help your eyes adjust to light changes when you come in from outside and also helps to keep your eyes, skin and mucous membranes moist.
Vitamin C and E are great antioxidants and protect your body from free radicals, which can cause heart disease, cancer and cellular damage. Vitamin E also helps to keep a healthy circulatory system and aids in proper blood clotting and wound healing.
